The Laser 5000 was originally designed as a potential Olympic boat for the 1996 Games, but narrowly missed that event and has since been superseded by the much lighter 49er. The Laser 5000 was originally a grand prix racing machine. With hull lines drawn by Phil Morrison, it's essentially a simple craft with few frills or complications.
