The local village, Glasson (8 km distance), known as 'The Village of the Roses' has 'Spollen's Supermarket/ Deli./ Off licence/ Post Office/ Service Station', two attractive pubs - 'Grogans' and 'The Villager'. Both serve excellent food. The village also has the award winning 'Glasson Village Restaurant', and a short distance away is the noted 'Wineport Restaurant' located on the lake shore. There's also a Hairdressers, Pharmacy, Craft Shop and a Tourist Information Centre in the old School House.
Just across the lake is the Hodson Bay Hotel and the Bay Watersports Centre for sailing, rowing, kayaking, pedal boating and water trampolining.
There is a choice of two 18 Hole Golf courses nearby Glasson Golf and Country Club and Athlone Golf Club at Hodson Bay both located on the lakeshore and a accessible by road or water.
Clonmacnoise The 6th Century early Christian Monastery is a short journey by water or road.
