HISTORY and DESCRIPTION:
VAGABOND’ELLE was built in 1970 and purchased by her current French owner for polar exploration in 1995 and is one of a succession of Vagabond yachts made famous through books, films, exhibitions and television programmes by their voyaging owners undertaking scientific research.
Built by Szczecinska Stocznia Yachtowa of Gdansk to a design by Ryszard Langer, Vagabond’elle has completed 1,000’s of nautical miles during the last fifteen years, the owners are now looking to down-size although the vessel was totally re-fitted in 1997 and up-graded in 2010 and 2011.
Ryszard Langer is a well respected naval architect, designer of over 200 sailing yachts and three tall ships.
Vagabond’elle is of cold moulded mahogany construction with composite frames, teak laid deck on marine ply sub-deck. Varnished mahogany superstructure.
Keel stepped aluminium mast with stainless steel standing rigging and lancelin running rigging (2009) Five Narwahl, Ocean and X-Voiles sails. Profurl main, jib and genoa reefing and Karver storm jib reefing. Total sail area 130 Sq. metres.
55hp Volvo D2-55 fitted new in 2007. Three-blade propeller. Two 220 litre and one 70 lire fuel tanks. Four Vetus batteries (2009) Fischer Panda 3.5 kva Generator (2005) 310 hours, serviced 20011. 230-volt shore power.
Accommodation for six in two cabins.
Main Saloon with two settee berths and two roote berths. Table for eight.
Twin Berth Master Cabin with armchair, bookcase, dressing table and wide working table.
Galley: Gimballed three-burner propane stove with oven and grill (2010) 12/240 volt fridge, 40-litre deep-freeze, 12 volt sixty litre an hour water maker, 220-volt bread maker, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, two 13kg gas cylinders on deck. Two 360 litre stainless steel freshwater tanks. Square stainless steel sink, pantry and crockery lockers and sets of drawers. Fire extinguisher.
Wheelhouse/ Cockpit. Built over the existing cockpit, the wheelshelter could be removed if required. Folding dinette/settee. Wheel steering, repeater instruments, heating, opening deck hatches port and starboard.
Heads Compartment. Lavac marine wc, shower h& c.
