Description

The SV Tom Crean is a beautiful vessel, comfortable and fast with great seaworthiness in any conditions. For 16 years she was sailing on Lough derg and in 2021 we bought her, lifted her to our back garden and lovingly stripped her paint to restore her wood. Now due to unforeseen circumstance we need to sell her on. The last survey in 2018 was carried out ashore, on the hard. The survey can be requested, she was found to be in excellent order. Tom Crean is offered for sale with all her upholestry, sails, wraps and fenders. This is an oppertunity to acquire a genuine true classic at very little expense, and will undoubtly bring joy as she has to this and previous owner (2005 - 2021). With only 75 hours on her engine and in great condition she is incredible value.

2007; Transducer and depth sounder renewed. VHF antenna replaced.
2008; New Beta marine diesel engine and gear box fitted. Anti-syphon tubes renewed. All skin fittings and valves renewed.
2010; New computer designed mainsail fitted and Genoa refurbished
2011; The complete 12v wiring system was renewed. 220v power fitted with breaker and RCD panel. New bilge p/p and float switch installed
2015; Mast removed for inspection of all rigging and mast top halyard blocks. Replaced bottle screws. Several weak ribs doubled up on port and starboard sides, mostly in engine area.
2018; Yard trailer rebuilt from axels up at a cost of e2,000 (not road certified).
2018; Full Survey for insurance purposes, stated ‘No expense spared to keep this craft in good condition’.
2021; We put the trailer on a low loader and trailed to our house near Gort, Co Galway. All wood has been lovingly stripped of paint and varnished. She has been out of the water since 2021 in our garden where she can be viewed.

Construction

The Hull underwater is in good condition. No damage and all hull penetrations are secure and clear. The cast Iron ballast keel was inspected 2018 and is seen to be secure. The trnsom hung timber rudder is hung of 4 pintles. The lower pintel is on the cast iron ballast keel. The top two pintle pins have retaining washers and split pins fitted. No play in bearings. She requires antifouling.

NEW 14 hp Beta Marine Diesal Engine and gear box fitted 2008
Bronze 3 Blade propellor. It is 12" in diamter and 9" pitch. Blades in good conditionand the unit is secure on the 1" bronze shaft with wsaher lock nut and split pin. No play in cutlass bearing. Engine has only 75 hours on her!

Sails & Spars

Main, Genoa and spinniker all stored indoors over winter and in very good condition. See video of her sailing.
2015 Mast removed for inspection of all rigging and mast top halyard blocks. Replaced two bottle screws.
2010; New computer designed mainsail fitted and Genoa refurbished by Wilsons Malahide. Genoa is self furling.
